(More customer reviews)This book is an invaluable resource to those affected by IBD. The author is a registered dietitian with a Master's degree in nutrition who has had IBD since the age of nineteen. (I also have a Master's degree in nutrition and found all of her nutrition information to be accurate.) The first part of the book contains essential information as to how to achieve a nutritionally adequate diet despite the problems associated with IBD. The reader will learn which foods can cause inflammation and bowel irritation, which foods can nourish and heal the bowel, how to avoid food-borne illness, which nutrient supplements are necessary, and what forms of these recommended supplements are best absorbed.
The second part of the book contains over 50 kitchen-tested nutrient rich recipes that the entire family can enjoy. Recipes for tasty shakes are also included that can be used as meal-replacements when appetite is poor.
As a parent of a child with Crohn's disease, I continually keep abreast of new materials on IBD. Unfortunately, I have found some deleterious dietary misinformation about IBD on the market.
In contrast, I was so impressed with "What to Eat with IBD" that I contacted the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) to tell them how helpful I think this book would be.
