The 2008 Weight Watchers Complete Food Companion is a great tool to pair with the Weight Watchers program. Though many items can easy be figured out using the WW Points Slider or Calculator, there are many that are not so easy. How do you figure out points in items that don't list nutritional values such as an avocado or an egg? This book will give you the points information and more.
If you opt to buy the book which is available for around $10 at your local WW center (and you don't have to be a member to purchase it) I would recommend taking some time to get a feel for how it is organized.
The book is almost 700 pages and includes 18,000 foods. If you understand how it is laid out you will be able to access points information much easier.
There are a number of sections in the book and each is color coded. The first section is an overview of foods from A-Z. Here is where you will look up the point count of grapes, a hamburger roll, or slice of zucchini bread. The next section covers Ethnic & Regional Favorites. The points for your favorite German, Greek, French, Thai etc food will be here. Next WW has a section devoted to WW foods. This is followed by more specific food categories with greater details than the overview of foods from A-Z section. There are a number of categories here including snacks, meat and poultry, bread and baked goods etc.
So for example, if you wanted to know the points in an egg, you would go to the general overview of foods A-Z section and you would get a points list for fried, whole, scrambled, deviled. But if you wanted to get more specific you would go to the dairy and eggs section of the book and look under the name brand. You would find points for Egglands, Egg Beaters, Morningstar Farms and others.
The back of the book includes "fast fixes - quick and simple meal ideas".
Easy Recipe and meals.
This book is a little treasure for the WW program. If you look up rice for example. You will see that fried is 8 points and white 4 for one cup. So you can decide if the fried is worth the 4 extra points. Or perhaps you would rather have 1/2 cup fried instead of a full cup of white for the same amount of points. Using the point information will help you make healthy choices towards your healthy weight!
